Happy New Year (Shanah Tovah)!
Dear WFU Hillel Alumni,
Shalom! We the board of WFU Hillel, would like to inform you that WFU Hillel has gotten off to a great start this semester. Within the first few weeks of school we have had several successful events: our back to school bagel brunch, leadership retreat in Greensboro, Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur, and our annual Succah Build.
We are excited that our Hillel membership numbers have been growing in leaps and bounds this semester. Jewish students on campus have been notifying us more and more about their willingness and eagerness to participate in Hillel and to be enriched Jewishly. As a board we have been working hard on programming social, social action and religious events for this year to keep members coming back for more.
This year in Hillel:
-- One-two Friday night Shabbat dinners a month;
-- Student carpooling to area synagogues to attend High Holiday services, as well as throughout the year giving students an opportunity to be part of Winston-Salem’s Jewish community;
-- Participation in campus-wide service projects with other campus organizations, forming a larger multicultural community. Hillel already has participated in a Campus Kitchen service event and in October, Hillel will participate along with many other organizations in Project Pumpkin: a campus wide service event involving over 3,000 volunteers;
-- An WFU Hillel initiative is planned to increase Jewish Holiday/Culture Awareness around campus through use of high visibility publicity;
-- Celebration of Holidays- Chanukah Party, Purim Party, celebration of Tu’Bshvat (New Year of the Trees), Passover Seder, just to name of few already planned!
-- A new website that is easy to access and edit (go to: wfu.hillelsofnc.org)
As an organization completely run by students, the quality of programming and enthusiasm for Jewish life in large part happens because of your support and our partnership with you. Please consider making a donation (Refer to the attached suggested donation insert.) We appreciate any contributions to Wake Forest University’s Hillel.
Happy New Year,
WFU Hillel Board 2010
